Grandma Alma was one of my favorite people. She died when I was ten, but I still have fond memories of her, spending a week at a time during summers. Grandma lived in San Francisco as a child. She told me of her experiences of the '06 earthquake. The family camped out in tents where UCSF is now located - where I went to undergraduate & graduate school. Her first husband died at the age of 35 from a massive heart attack. To be a woman alone back in those days was not an easy life. She remarried Grandpa Bill who was very kind to her and us.
We were certainly not the fashion plates though - check out those hairdos! !
